Professional credentials
Dr. Pham's certifications reflect a deliberately broad foundation: internal medicine for the whole adult patient, obesity medicine for the metabolic conditions that drive much of modern chronic disease, and menopause care for a stage of life that is frequently under-addressed.

Medical background and clinical experience
Before founding TruFamilyMD, Dr. Pham practiced as a cardiothoracic surgeon. That work placed him at the end of the disease timeline — operating on patients whose conditions had progressed for years before anyone intervened. Surgery was sometimes necessary and often successful, but it frequently arrived later than it needed to.
He has also served as an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Missouri Kansas City. Across surgical and internal medicine practice, the consistent observation was the same: the earlier a physician understands a patient, the more options remain available.
Why he created TruFamilyMD
TruFamilyMD was founded on the belief that healthcare should rest on trust between doctor and patient rather than on transactions and third-party interference. Dr. Pham designed the practice so that the constraints that limit thoroughness — short visits, long waits, fragmented handoffs — are not built into the model.
The result is a practice where patients have direct, ongoing access to one physician who knows their history, prioritizes prevention, and tailors care to their goals.
His approach to the physician-patient relationship
Dr. Pham describes himself as a health architect rather than only a treating physician: someone working alongside you to protect your health over decades. What distinguishes his practice, patients often note, is a genuine willingness to listen. Medical history, lifestyle, family circumstances and personal goals all inform the plan, because all of them affect whether a plan will actually work.
He is also committed to continuous learning, including in longevity medicine, so that recommendations reflect current evidence rather than habit.
Areas of clinical focus
- Adult primary care and chronic disease management
- Direct primary care membership relationships
- Physician-led medical weight management
- Metabolic health, including blood sugar, blood pressure and lipids
- Menopause and midlife women's health
- Preventive medicine and long-term healthspan
Prevention and long-term health
TruFamilyMD's stated mission is to prioritize healthspan, not just lifespan. In practice this means screening on schedule, reviewing risk before symptoms appear, treating metabolic problems early, and revisiting the plan as your life changes rather than only when something goes wrong.
English and Vietnamese communication
Medical decisions are only truly shared when they are understood. Dr. Pham communicates with patients in both English and Vietnamese, which allows Vietnamese- speaking patients and their families in Orange County to discuss diagnoses, options and risks in the language they think in.
