Direct Primary Care Cost & Savings Calculator

See what your healthcare may really be costing you — in money, time, and access.

Healthcare costs are more than copays.

There is the urgent care visit because your doctor was unavailable. The telehealth fee. The prescription. The lab bill. The MRI. The drive. The waiting room. And the time away from work and family.

Use this calculator to estimate your current healthcare costs and compare them with the potential cost and value of Direct Primary Care.

Transparent pricing

A simpler way to pay for some healthcare services

Depending on the service, patients may be able to access medications, laboratory testing or outpatient imaging through transparent cash or negotiated pricing.

  • Know the price before receiving the service
  • Compare insurance versus cash pricing
  • Avoid unexpected bills
  • Reduce deductible uncertainty
  • Potentially faster access
  • Less insurance-related administrative friction

Cash pricing is not always cheaper. Whether it is lower depends on your insurance, your deductible, the specific service and what is available at the time. Certain medications, labs or imaging services may be available at substantially lower cash or negotiated prices.

Healthcare friction

The cost you don't see: healthcare friction

When a patient chooses to purchase an eligible service directly outside insurance, insurance prior-authorization requirements may not apply to that transaction. This depends on the service and the provider. It does not change medical necessity, safety standards or the need for appropriate clinical evaluation.

Friction that may be reduced:

  • Insurance phone calls
  • Prior authorization delays for certain cash-pay services
  • Billing uncertainty
  • Scheduling complexity
  • Waiting for routine care
  • Separate telehealth visits
  • Difficulty knowing what something will cost

FAQs

Direct Primary Care cost questions

What is Direct Primary Care?

Direct Primary Care is a membership model. Instead of building the relationship around individual insurance-billed office visits, you pay a predictable monthly fee for the primary care relationship: longer appointments, direct communication with your physician and continuity with the same doctor.

How much does Direct Primary Care cost?

TruFamilyMD membership is $150 per month, with a one-time $150 enrollment fee. What the membership includes is reviewed with you during a free Meet & Greet, and household pricing is discussed there as well.

Can Direct Primary Care save me money?

It may, depending on how much you currently spend on primary care visits, paid telehealth, avoidable urgent care and medications. It may also cost more than what you spend today. This calculator gives an estimate based on the numbers you enter; it is not a guarantee of savings.

Does DPC replace health insurance?

No. Direct Primary Care is not health insurance. Most patients should keep appropriate coverage for emergencies, hospitalization, specialists, procedures, imaging and other services outside the membership.

Can I use DPC with a PPO?

Many patients keep their existing plan and use membership for their primary care relationship. Your plan still covers the services it normally covers outside the membership. Check the specifics of your own policy.

Can I use DPC with a high-deductible health plan?

Patients with high-deductible plans often find the model appealing because routine primary care is predictable while the plan remains in place for larger expenses. Rules around HSAs and memberships can change, so confirm details with your plan administrator or tax advisor.

Are medications included in DPC?

Medications are not included in the membership. Many commonly prescribed generics may be available at substantially lower cash prices through cash-pay pharmacies, and Dr. Pham can discuss options with you. Actual pricing depends on the medication, pharmacy and quantity.

Are laboratory tests included?

Laboratory testing is billed separately from membership. Transparent cash pricing may be available for some tests — for example CBC, CMP and TSH are $3 each — so you can know the price before the test is run.

Can DPC help me find lower-cost imaging?

Where outpatient imaging is appropriate, we can help you look for transparent cash or negotiated pricing when it is available. Cash pricing is not always lower, and it depends on your insurance, deductible and the facility.

Can Direct Primary Care reduce urgent care visits?

Some minor acute concerns may be managed through same-day or next-day primary care, secure messaging, phone or video when clinically appropriate. Emergencies and higher-acuity conditions still require urgent or emergency evaluation.

Can families join Direct Primary Care?

Yes. Households can join together, and pricing for additional members is reviewed during your free Meet & Greet.
